Apostille: An Apostille is a certification that authenticates the origin of a public document for use in another country, ensuring it is recognized internationally. Apostilles are governed by the Hague Convention for Apostille, adopted on October 5, 1961 and put into effect on January 24, 1965. See section below for more information on Apostille and the Hague Convention.
Authentication: Authentication verifies the validity of a document, confirming that it is genuine and was issued by a recognized authority.
Legalization: Legalization is a formal process where a document is certified for use in a foreign country, often requiring multiple levels of certification to ensure its legitimacy.

The Hague Convention of 5 October 1961 Abolishing the Requirement of Legalization for Foreign Public Documents, commonly known as the Apostille Convention, was created to simplify the process of legalizing documents for international use. The convention aims to facilitate the use of public documents abroad by replacing the cumbersome and often expensive process of legalization with the issuance of a certificate known as an Apostille. This certificate authenticates the origin of the public document and is recognized in all member countries of the convention.
